The Office of Academic Advising (OAA) facilitates undergraduate student success through holistic, student-centered academic advising, academic petition support, and coordination of key university advising initiatives.
While the office’s services are available to all undergraduate students, OAA efforts are specifically focused on exploring and transfer students, as well as students experiencing academic difficulty. OAA’s work is inclusive, collaborative, and motivated by a culture of care, connection, and community.

OAA organizes the annual College Block event for incoming students during the UO's Week of Welcome.
OAA this year coordinated significant elements of the UO’s First-Year Experience program, which serves as an academic onboarding for undergraduate students.
Specifically, OAA provided leadership and coordination around the advising and registration processes for incoming students, led the College Block program during the UO’s Week of Welcome, and developed the materials for advising presentations incorporated into the seminar curriculum for 520 students in First-Year Interest Groups.
Advisor Training and Education
OAA advanced its efforts to support campuswide training and education of academic advisors across all of the UO’s schools and colleges.
The office organized fall and spring term town halls for advisors, led the advisor training for summer IntroDUCKtion sessions with incoming first-year students, partnered with the All Campus Advising Association on professional development events, and hired a new position to direct advisor training and education moving forward.
Peer Advising
The OAA Peer Link team facilitated 1,202 sessions with students this year. Peer advisors serve as a continuous point of contact for individual students and provide services that include:
- Hosting drop-in and appointment-based advising hours,
- Connecting students with campus resources and academic support services,
- Helping students identify additional academic or co-curricular opportunities.
The impact of the Peer Link team reached beyond exploring students, with 69 percent of sessions taking place with students with declared majors or pre-majors.
Additionally, two students on the Peer Link team, Riley Dion and Makda Eyobe, were recognized by the Student Alumni Association with “25 Ducks” awards.
More Highlights
- OAA has become a leading resource for transfer students. In addition to working with academic units and community college partners to create clearer transfer pathways, the office also offers transfer advising, has launched a Transfer Club and created a Transfer Seminar course, and coordinates National Transfer Student Week programming at UO.
- OAA launched two new Residential Communities this year: First-Generation Community and First-Year Explorers. Both communities, which enrolled 47 students, enjoyed regular programming opportunities and direct advising support.
