The NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program recognizes and supports outstanding graduate students in NSF-supported science, technology, engineering, and mathematics disciplines who are pursuing research-based Master's and doctoral degrees at accredited United States institutions. The fellowships provide three years of support for graduate study leading to research-based master’s or doctoral degrees. The Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP) invests in graduate education for a cadre of diverse individuals who demonstrate their potential to successfully complete graduate degree programs in disciplines relevant to the mission of the National Science Foundation.
Fellows benefit from a three-year annual stipend of $34,000 along with a $12,000 cost of education allowance for tuition and fees (paid to the institution), opportunities for international research and professional development, and the freedom to conduct their own research at any accredited U.S. institution of graduate education they choose.
Eligibility
- Applicants must be a U.S. citizen, or permanent resident
- Pursuing a research-based master's or doctoral degree in the science, technology, engineering and mathematics fields supported by NSF
- Graduating senior or post-graduate
- Completed no more than 12 months of full-time graduate study or the equivalent
